Nice Côte d'Azur airport commissions its collaborative decision making process to optimise air traffic
After several months of collaboration with all of its operational partners, on November 25, Nice Côte d’Azur airport commissioned its Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) system in connection with the Network Manager - Eurocontrol. Now equipped with this system, France's second airport is seeking to improve the safety, environmental impact and punctuality of air traffic.
After an implementation and testing period, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport operationally commissioned its Collaborative Decision Making system on a permanent basis on Monday, November 25 at 14:36, with the take-off of an Emirates A380 as its first practical application. This step should allow the airport to actively contribute to improving the fluidity and coordination of air traffic in Europe, and gain its accreditation from Eurocontrol within the next few months.
"The commissioning of our CDM represents a major landmark step with the movements and operations of our platform being integrated even more efficiently into their wider environment. It is a competitive advantage for our partners, airlines and ground crews, who will gain operational efficiency, and the promise of better service quality for our passengers. Our CDM will also help significantly reduce the time aircraft spend taxiing and their greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to our voluntary policy to reduce our carbon footprint," proudly commented Dominique Thillaud, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur.
The commissioning of this CDM was made possible thanks to the major joint efforts undertaken with airlines, ground crews, the IT service providers Resa, Atrics, and above all the French air traffic control body (DSNA), without forgetting the national weather agency Météo France. This development has come as Nice Côte d’Azur Airport passed the mark of 14 million annual passengers, with more than 60 percent international passengers, and now offers six long-haul destinations, including China from August 2019.
